I had had known this was an Oprah's book club pick, I would have run the other way. Oprah and I have rarely agreed on reading material, you see. I think the last book that she picked which I loved to pieces was The Poisonwood Bible. This book was beautiful, so heartbreakingly beautiful that I devoured the pages like a starved woman. Each sentence was like a poem, created with a care that highlights the writer's great skill. I immediately bonded with Edgar, a mute boy who loves his dogs like they are his brothers(and sisters).Unfortunately, the ending SUCKED ON SUCH A HARDCORE LEVEL that I couldn't get over it. It still haunts me to this day and I feel sick when I think of it.Books should not destroy readers and I would love to know one single person in the world who wasn't completely devastated by the last few chapters of this book. For shame, Wroblewski, for shame.
